What Does Scouting Cost?

For the 2023-2024 program year, the base cost for youth is $112. This amount covers national registration and Council fees ($87) and troop dues ($25). New Scouts are required to pay a $60 troop joining fee, which covers an Oreland Troop 1 neckerchief, a Scout handbook and unit patches. In addition, youth new to Scouting (those not coming over from a Cub Scout pack or another troop) are required to pay a $25 national new member fee.

New Scouts who sign-up online will pay the national registration fee and national new member fee, if applicable, directly to BSA at the time of registration. Troop dues and the troop joining fee can be paid directly to the unit by a check made payable to Oreland Troop 1, or via Venmo.

The troop asks for reimbursement to cover food costs and activity fees for each event. Scouts are required to have a full uniform (shirt, pants/shorts, belt, socks) that gets worn to meetings and select activities.

Oreland Troop 1 believes that every boy deserves to be a Boy Scout. Families should never allow financial hardship to prevent their son from participating in our program. We have funds available for any Scout in financial need to assist with trips, uniforms, or program materials and equipment. Please reach out to the Scoutmaster for additional details.
