Order of the Hawk

The Order of the Hawk honors those who serve the Scouts of Oreland Troop 1 in an outstanding manner and help in the development, maintenance and operation of Hawk Mountain Camp.

At the end of the Oreland Troop 1’s first summer camp at Hawk Mountain Camp in August 1962, adult staff members decided to create a special order to honor those who made that camp happen. On the Friday night before the last Saturday at camp, adult leaders who were present became the first charter members of the Order of the Hawk. This order honors those who help in the development, maintenance and operation of Hawk Mountain Camp.

Recipients of this prestigious award have to serve the Scouts of Oreland Troop 1 in an OUTSTANDING manner, and have to be elected unanimously by every member present at Summer Camp. The first elected member of the Order was Al Doering.

*= These elected members were not eligible for the award due to the new qualifications introduced in 1979, but since their efforts were so helpful and tireless to the troop, the members of the Order present felt that they should be elected despite the qualifications.
